David has farmed pigs at Egypt Farm since 1976. A hundred Sow herd was established producing weaner pigs for sale (ten weeks of age).
In the early 1980's additional buildings were built in order to take all the progeny to Bacon weight (100Kgs liveweight).
In 1999 the breeding herd was disbanded and weaners were purchased to grow to Bacon weight.
In 2002 the decision was taken to quit commercial pig farming, economies of scale were, and still are getting bigger. It was impossable to compete with cheaper imported pork.
From 2002 we have been niche marketing Pork, Sausages & Bacon.
For circa six years David was Chairman of the National Farmers Union, Kent & East Sussex pigs committee.
